A Crazy Rich Asians sequel movie has been in development for years, but now plans have changed and a sequel series is happening instead!
Adele Lim, the co-writer of the original film, will return as showrunner and executive producer alongside Kevin Kwan, the author of the novels, Jon M. Chu, the director of the movie, and Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, who produced the original movie.
Four actors from the original film are confirmed to return, but some big stars have been left off the cast list. Of course, this is just the initial casting and more actors will likely be added in the future!
“It’s a CRAZY RICH family reunion! This series is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, but instead of just one movie, we get eight episodes to delve into the characters and worlds of Kevin Kwan’s brilliant books. Getting to work with the original creative team with the support and vision of HBO and Warner Bros. Television has been a dream. Our writers room is humming and we can’t wait to share what we’ve come up with,” Adele said in a statement.
The series will span across eight one-hour episodes. Production on the series will begin in 2027 and a release date is not yet known.
“We are so excited that Adele and the team behind the history-making film are bringing the next chapter of this story to life,” Casey Bloys, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance Direct-To-Consumer, said. “Constance, Henry, Ronny and Michelle are global superstars, and we know the passionate fans of the film and megahit novels can’t wait to see more.”
