It’s been over a year since Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale debuted in theaters.
The hit TV series and movie franchise has widely been believed to be over after last year’s film, but creator Julian Fellowes is now teasing how it could continue on in the future.

“Well, I’m not entirely sure how to answer that,” he replied to People when asked if there could be another movie.
“I don’t think we’ll do any more with the original cast, but I don’t know if there’ll be any other incarnation,” he added. “It’s too early to say, really.”
Previously, Julian teased that he didn’t think The Grand Finale was the end of the franchise.
“I don’t think it’s necessarily the end of Downton completely, but I don’t think we’ll see the original cast again,” he told People in September 2025.
That same month, he told EW about why there wouldn’t be a continuation with the current cast and storylines.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale “follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s. As the beloved cast of characters navigates how to lead Downton Abbey into the future, they must embrace change and welcome a new chapter.”
The TV series first debuted in September 2010 and ran for six seasons, ending in 2025. Several years later, the stars returned for the first movie in 2019, followed by the second in 2022 and the third in 2025.
